Bring Lyrics to Life

Music is magic. It has the power to heal, connect and inspire. I spent most of my life happily listening to music as a fan, never imagining I would one day be part of the song making process.

Then on January 27 2022, out of left field my son said something to me that was so moving I could “just see” a song in my mind, I could hear a melody to the words that just poured onto the page. I didn’t have a plan or any musical background; just an inspiration so forceful that I had to act on it. And I’m so glad I did. I wrote my first song, “Don’t Worry Mama” and promised myself and my family I wouldn’t turn back. Since that day, I have thrown myself into the world of songwriting and now write almost everyday.

In just a year, my YouTube Channel has over 3.6M views and close to 11K subscribers. I had no idea the impact some of my songs would make on the lives of strangers and it keeps me fueled to see the comments of people who are finding healing in my songs. I am also so excited and honored that the song Painting Pickets won the 2023 Annual Grand Prize in the American Songwriter magazine’s Lyric contest.

Having spent most of my adult life working in the high tech industry, diving headfirst into songwriting was a true pivot, but one that I feel compelled to follow. I want to be an example to anyone who has ever questioned that their dreams and passions seem impossible based on where they started. Nothing brings me more joy than working with singers and musicians and creating songs together. The process itself is sometimes outcome enough.

Thanks to the wonders of technology and distance learning, I can continue to develop my craft and am working toward a Bachelor’s Degree in Songwriting at Berklee College of Music.

I am spending as much time as I can in Nashville and am looking forward to all the new music I’ll write with all of my incredibly talented collaborators.

More coming throughout the year so please follow @merritt_lyrics  IG and subscribe to Merritt Lyrics on YouTube and enjoy the music.
